Multimedia Signal Processing
Group description
The group investigates in the following areas: audio-visual speech processing, watermarking in digital images, automatic verification of handwritten signatures, identification of dynamical systems, and synthesis of textures.
Audio-visual speech processing: investigateion of feature extraction and integration of audio-visual information in animation of avatars commanded by voice and video.
Watermarking in digital images: investigation of new techniques for inserting watermarks that are developed in the transformed DWT and SVD domains. The characteristics of robustness and imperceptibility are evaluated using new perceptual metrics.
Automatic verification of handwritten signatures: investigation of new off-line and on-line techniques for the verification of handwritten signatures, which are robust to rotation and scaling. New techniques for the classification and feature extraction of signatures are evaluated.
Identification of dynamic systems: investigation of new techniques for the identification of linear and nonlinear systems, based on orthonormal bases and subspace methods. Both approaches are considered as input-output methods for the blind identification.
Synthesis of textures: investigation of new techniques for modeling and simulation of materials developed in graphics hardware for photo-realistic rendering.
The group also performs collaborative research with the following institutions:
Groups CORTEX, PAROLE and READ of LORIA (Lorraine Laboratory of IT Research and its Applications), INRIA, CNRS, INPL, Nancy 1, Nancy 2, Nancy, France.
Department of Computer Science, University of Chile, Santiago, Chile
